A Warrant of Fitness is a mandatory safety inspection that certifies your vehicle meets New Zealand road standards. All light vehicles — cars, utes, vans, and light commercials — must hold a current WOF to be legally driven on New Zealand roads. From 1 November 2026, inspection frequency changes for many vehicles. We can tell you exactly where your vehicle sits under the new rules — just call 0800 100 876.

Tony Allen Auto Service is an NZTA-authorised inspection station at 139 Cavendish Drive, Manukau. We operate seven specialist divisions under one roof, which means if your vehicle fails its WOF — whether it needs brakes, tyres, suspension, or electrical work — we can deal with it in Manukau the same day in most cases. No referrals. No second booking. Written estimate before any work begins, and a free re-inspection within 28 days of the original inspection date.

We are not a franchise. We are a family-owned workshop that has been here since 1985 — and we are still here because we do the job properly.

Our WOF inspection bay is dedicated and staffed by trained, certified inspectors every day. We use regularly calibrated, fully certified testing equipment — the same standard required by NZTA. Walk in Monday to Friday, 7:30am to 5:00pm. Most inspections are done in 30 to 45 minutes. Relax in our customer lounge with free Wi-Fi and a coffee while we work through the inspection. You can watch through the window as your vehicle goes through the test lane.

What makes TAAS different is what happens if your vehicle fails. We give you a written repair estimate before we touch anything. You decide whether to proceed — no pressure. If we carry out the repairs, the re-inspection is free within 28 days. And because we run seven specialist divisions under one roof, we can deal with most failure items the same day. Brakes, tyres, suspension, electrics — it is all here. One workshop, one visit.

Told them to replace my belt tensioner due to frequent squeaking after replacing my belt. They looked around and said, “nope, take the belt back and ask for a new one under warranty”.. Charged me $12, and after installing a new belt, turns out they were right.

    What vehicles need a WoF?

All vehicles in NZ are legally required to have a Warrant of Fitness (WoF) or a Certificate of Fitness (CoF) to ensure they are safe to drive on the road. Those under 3,500kg, such as cars, vans, utes, trailers, caravans and small trucks, need to have a current WoF. Our dedicated WoF specialist will service your vehicle to meet all major mechanical breakdown insurances. Large vehicles over 3,500kg, like a campervan or horse truck, need a CoF, which we can organise for you.

For a maintenance service, you can choose from our range of vehicle services. We can also service new vehicles to the manufacturer’s warranty.

How long does a WoF inspection take?

A standard Warrant of Fitness inspection usually takes 30 to 45 minutes, depending on your vehicle’s condition. You can relax in our comfortable waiting lounge with a cup of coffee while our certified technicians get your car road-ready.

Can I book my WoF appointment online?

Yes, booking your WoF in Manukau has never been easier.

Call 0800 100 876 or email enquiries@taas.co.nz to book your WoF inspection — we’ll handle the rest.

How Often Do I Need a WoF?

WOF frequency depends on your vehicle's age and registration date. Currently, most vehicles registered after 1 January 2000 need an annual WOF. Vehicles registered before 2000 need one every six months.

From 1 November 2026, this changes. Vehicles aged 4–14 years registered on or after November 2019 will move to two-yearly inspections. Vehicles over 14 years old remain on annual WOFs — no change. Pre-2000 vehicles will move from 6-monthly to annual.

Not sure when your WOF is due? Call us on 0800 100 876 and we will check for you.

What happens if my vehicle fails the WoF?

If your vehicle fails the WoF inspection, we’ll provide you with a detailed report outlining the necessary repairs. You have 28 days to get the repairs done and return for a free re-check.

    Not Sure About Your WOF?

Call us on 0800 100 876 and one of our team will answer your question directly. Or send us a message and we’ll get back to you the same day. Walk-ins also welcome Monday to Friday, 7:30am to 5:00pm — no appointment needed.

If your vehicle needs repair work after its WOF, you don't have to pay it all upfront. Tony Allen Auto Service offers flexible payment options including Afterpay, Zip, Q Card, and Finance Now. Ask our team about payment options when you bring your vehicle in.
