Started with one bay.
Built over forty years.
Tony Allen Auto Service was founded in October 1985 by Tony Allen, his son Mike, and brother Anthony — three people, one workshop bay, and a straightforward approach: do the work properly, charge a fair price, and stand behind it. That approach hasn't changed.
Tony retired in 2004 and Anthony moved on to other opportunities, but Mike continued building the business alongside his sister until 2021, when she too moved on to new ventures. In 2004, Mike's son Dean joined the business as an apprentice — completing his apprenticeship, gaining NZTA WOF inspector authority, and earning his Advanced Technician qualification before stepping into Service Manager in 2014 and General Manager in 2022.
Today, Mike and Dean run the business together, with Dean taking on increasing ownership as Mike begins to ease toward retirement. The customer base now exceeds 10,000 contacts. Twelve staff work across seven specialist divisions at 139 Cavendish Drive, Manukau — the same address, a much bigger workshop.
South Auckland is a region that moves. Logistics, manufacturing, distribution, trades — the economy here depends on vehicles staying on the road. TAAS exists to make that happen for individual car owners and fleet operators alike, from one suburb over or one bay in 1985.
