How We Work
We don't just swap the battery. Every replacement at Tony Allen Auto Service follows this process to make sure the new battery lasts.
Our Recommended Brand
When customers trust us to choose their battery, we fit Neuton Power. Not because we're told to — because in all our years of fitting batteries at this workshop, Neuton Power batteries have consistently proven reliable. When our technicians choose a battery for their own vehicles, they choose Neuton Power.
That reliability record is the most honest measure of a battery's quality. We have fitted hundreds of Neuton Power batteries across cars, vans, 4WDs, and marine applications.
Neuton Power is distributed in New Zealand through YHI Automotive — the same authorised distributor who supplies Bosch batteries. As a preferred YHI dealer, Manukau Batteries has access to the full Neuton Power range with same-day sourcing for most applications.

Common Questions
Car batteries at Tony Allen Auto Service start from $150 fitted — supply, fitting, and old battery disposal included. The exact price depends on the specification your vehicle requires (size, cold cranking amps, AGM or EFB chemistry). We give you the total cost before we start. Call us on 0800 100 876 with your registration number and we'll quote before you come in.
We hear this every day. The simplest guide: if the battery warning light is on while driving, the alternator is likely at fault. If the car starts fine after a jump but dies again overnight, look for a parasitic drain. If it struggles to crank but all electrics work, the battery itself is usually the issue. A load test — which we carry out free — is the only accurate way to know for certain.
In most cases yes. We stock a full range for common Japanese, Korean, and Australian vehicles. European vehicles sometimes need a specific battery — call us on 0800 100 876 before coming in and we'll confirm stock for your vehicle.
Yes. BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, Audi, and Volvo all use battery management systems that must be told a new battery has been fitted. Without registration, the charging system continues as if the old degraded battery is still installed — shortening the new battery's life significantly. Raj carries out battery registration as part of every European battery job — it's included in the price.
Usually one of three things: the battery has reached end of life; the alternator isn't producing enough voltage to recharge while driving; or there's a parasitic drain — something drawing current when the ignition is off. We diagnose all three with a battery load test, alternator output test, and drain test before recommending any parts.
Most batteries last 3–5 years in Auckland. The warm climate actually accelerates internal corrosion faster than colder regions. Vehicles doing lots of short trips (under 10 minutes) wear batteries faster — the alternator doesn't get enough run time to fully recharge between starts.
Not for long. The warning light means the alternator isn't charging — the vehicle is running on stored battery power only and will cut out without warning. Turn off all non-essential electrics and drive directly to a workshop. Don't leave it.
